Career Sylvester (born May 21, 2015 Lincoln, NE; died Jan 3, 2058 Riverton, WY) was an adjunct English college instructor writing over break and summers until she was launched into global super stardom with her series of novels dealing with her protagonist, Hector Gamble. Her first book, Clementine Fog, a literary novel published in 2035, sold poorly and put her writing career in jeopardy. As way to excise her disappointment, she decided to work on something "fun yet clever," the result being the first Gamble novel, The Skin Game, published in 2039.
After The Skin Game enjoyed moderate success, she followed it with Sinking Amber (2040), another non-Gamble literary flop. A small fan community pleaded for her to write another Gamble novel, and she completed Before the Gates of Excellence (2041) during her four-month maternity leave. With a steadier stream of income from the Gamble books she wrote two back-to-back, Maximum Torque (2042) and Pastures of Plenty (2042), the latter being notable for being the first time that Gamble gives one of his famous Marxist rants. These books, marketed retrospectively as a trilogy, became a worldwide phenomenon within months. Sylvester, a prolific writer even during her leanest years, churned out as many as four novels a year once her writing fully supported her. Though early critics derided her work as pop culture fluff, academic study of her work revealed that all her Gamble books feature penetrating social commentary, even in such over-the-top novels such as Gamble Versus Jason (2050), where the derivative plot and campy dialogue mask a sophisticated critique of the history of the horror genre.
An avid supporter of fan fiction, she constantly fought with her publishers over the rights of the Gamble trademark, pushing to allow fans to adapt her work for their own self-publishing projects. She also stated in her rare interviews that she abhorred any title that featured Gamble's name, and that too often the cover art did not meet with her satisfaction.
Death Sylvester contracted the flu at a Christmastime book launch for what wold be her last novel, Dover Calling (2059). She passed away a few weeks later in her mountain home in Wyoming.
